Wildlife

Native creatures of the Arctic

The land around Isbreen The Glacier has always been a sanctuary for wildlife. The sky is alive with puffins, terns and ptarmigans. Sea eagles soar with commanding grace, whilst great cormorants stand with wings spread wide by the water.
Beneath their crystalline surface, the fjords, too, teem with life. Seals rest on the rocks. Sea trout shimmer in the depths. Dolphins, otters, and even humpback whales can be spotted gliding gracefully past.
The shy and solitary moose is the largest beast to roam this wilderness on land. Arctic fox and hare scurry through the undergrowth, the sheen of their coats changing with the seasons. They must stay alert, however, lest they fall prey to the Eurasian lynx stalking silently through the tundra.
Among the most striking natural wonders is the migration of the reindeer. Every spring, they embark on an ancient journey through the mountains, returning to their winter grounds before the fall of the snow.
