Sustainability
Driving positive impact in remote Arctic communities
At Isbreen The Glacier, sustainability guides our choices. Located far above the Arctic Circle, we are dedicated to preserving the pristine wilderness that surrounds us while supporting the community that calls this remote corner of the world home.
Our location far above the Arctic Circle offers guests a chance to experience pristine wilderness in its purest form. To preserve this untouched beauty, our infrastructure is designed with minimal impact. For instance, the igloos are built on removable platforms, leaving no lasting trace on the land. We actively reduce light pollution to protect the dark skies that showcase the Northern Lights and safeguard nocturnal wildlife. A critical part of our ecological commitment includes sourcing our cuisine from local Arctic ingredients. Also, our chef is passionately committed to reducing food waste by crafting innovative, sustainable dishes. This approach not only celebrates the natural bounty of the region but also reduces the environmental impact of long supply chains.
The carefully selected bathroom collection from RÅ Skincare features a premium, natural skincare line proudly crafted in Norway. Each product is thoughtfully formulated with potent bioactive ingredients, free from unnecessary preservatives or additives. Committed to sustainability, these products are fully biodegradable, entirely vegan, and crafted without any animal-derived ingredients or testing.
All our excursions are carefully designed to respect the environment, offering private, intimate journeys that maintain the solitude and serenity of the Arctic.
By choosing to stay with us, guests directly support small, remote Arctic communities. Unlike Tromsø, with its population of 42,000 and bustling tourism economy, our community of 1,100 depends on tourism as a lifeline. Through partnerships with local suppliers and artisans, we help sustain traditional livelihoods and ensure that these communities thrive.
We’re also committed to preserving and sharing the cultural heritage of the Arctic. Guests have the unique opportunity to connect with the Sami people and learn about their deep relationship with the land and their reindeer herding traditions - a way of life that has endured for centuries.
We take pride in offering our guests a genuine experience, untouched by artificial alterations. We don't ask our suppliers to adapt their products or experiences; instead, we embrace authenticity – genuine people, unfiltered experiences, and a truly unique immersion into the heart of our culture.
Operating in a remote location presents logistical challenges and higher costs, but it also provides meaningful benefits. Every guest who visits contributes to sustaining small, independent businesses that are vital to our community’s economy, creating a ripple effect of economic support in our region.
At Isbreen The Glacier, we focus on providing an authentic and immersive Arctic experience while maintaining a positive impact on the environment, local communities, and economy. Our approach to sustainability ensures that this unique Arctic region is preserved and enjoyed responsibly for years to come.
